We study the lubricated sliding of a rigid cylinder on viscoelastic half space with single characteristic retardation time. Besides generalized inverse Hersey number $$\beta$$ , which is sole parameter governing elastic lubrication, lubrication solution depends two additional dimensionless parameters: $$\alpha$$ and $$f$$ . time divided by for to move one contact width f determines strength viscoelasticity. have developed numerical scheme solve this problem. Our results show that total friction force can be decomposed into hydrodynamic components. The component well approximated dry limit in liquid layer all squeezed out resistance due entirely dissipation. modification hydrodynamics. also dependence pressure, film thickness coefficient these parameters.
